Normal, Illinois (WMBD) —Uptown Normal businesses can continue to offer outdoor dining as an option when servicing their guests.

On Monday night, the city council unanimously approved, and the mayor allowed the company to extend its outdoor dining program as a way to keep it running.

When the state was reopened and entered Phase 5, the town’s emergency regulations were set to expire when the Governor’s entire state emergency ended.

However, town staff said many companies had come forward and tried to recover from the pandemic closure and demanded an extension as a way to enable additional businesses.

City council members said it was a popular service and could only help the uptown bounce.

“A little homework I did after the packet came out was to talk to five different companies in Uptown, but everyone was very supportive and some were more in Uptown. I thought it would only help bring the business to life. People are still a bit sketchy about going out in public, “said councilor Kevin McCarthy.

The extension will expire on December 31, 2021.

Also on the agenda, the council approved a salary increase for the town manager, Pamela Reese.

According to a council packet, it dates back to April 1st and was based on her performance evaluation held at an executive session in March.

With unanimous approval, Reece’s salary will increase from $ 190,550 to $ 196,266.50 in fiscal year 2020-2021 and from $ 196,266.50 to $ 201,000 in fiscal year 2021-2022.
