Letters: The stakes are high if Illinois doesn’t preserve nuclear power plants

Preserving the state’s existing nuclear plants operated by Exelon, which this legislation does, is far cheaper than the alternative of letting them close. If the Braidwood, Byron, Dresden and LaSalle plants retire early, Illinois will be confronted with compounding problems: rising energy prices; a substantial loss of steady, high-paying jobs; and a massive loss in tax revenue and gross domestic product. Businesses that work with Exelon like mine, the jobs we support and the related economic activity are all at risk — and entirely missing from the Tribune editorial.
