Illinois COVID-19 Update: August 4, 2021
Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike joined the governor at 2:30 p.m. today at the Thompson Center in Chicago to discuss new guidelines, which included a statewide school mask mandate and requiring some workers to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
These are the new guidelines: Masks are required in all P-12 schools and daycare facilities. Vaccinations are required for all state employees at congregate care facilities, veterans’ homes and correctional facilities. (Congregate care facility means a residential facility containing separate dwelling units, which provide housekeeping assistance, personal care assistance and meal preparation assistance to its residents.) Masks are required in all long-term care facilities.
Illinois remains in Phase 5 of the COVID-19 reopening plan. As a reminder, not all restrictions are lifted.
As noted in “Phase 5 Guidelines for Businesses and Venues,” all individuals, including those who are fully vaccinated, must continue to wear a mask in health care settings, (which includes dental offices). To read the full document, you may click here.
o There are limited circumstances and settings where all individuals, including those who are fully vaccinated, must continue to wear a mask in accordance with CDC guidance:(1) on public transportation, (2) in congregate facilities, (3) in health care settings, and where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.
The CDC recommends you continue to screen and triage everyone entering a dental facility for signs and symptoms of COVID-19. The CDC also recommends using additional infection prevention and control practices. These practices are intended to apply to all patients, not just those with suspected or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection.
