Chicago violence: 14 shot, 1 fatally, in weekend shootings across city

CHICAGO — At least 14 people were shot, one fatally, in citywide gun violence since this weekend.

SATURDAY

A man was shot Saturday morning in Jefferson Park on the Northwest Side.

About 3 a.m., the 27-year-old was a passenger in a vehicle with his friend in the 5100-block of West Agatite Avenue when the two were approached by the alleged shooter who then asked for money, Chicago police said.

When the two stated they didn’t have any money and drove away, the alleged shooter, described as a 5-foot-9 male with a face tattoo in his 20s, opened fire, police said.

The man was taken to Community First Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

No one was in custody.

A woman was shot in Little Village Saturday morning on the West Side.

About 12:25 a.m., the woman, 47, was driving when she was caught in the crossfire of two vehicles in the 3500-block of South Kedzie, Chicago police said.

She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where she was listed in fair condition, police said.

No one was in custody.

FRIDAY

Two teens were shot and wounded Friday evening in Chatham on the South Side.

About 11:55 p.m., a male and a female, both 16, were walking in the 8700 block of South-Holland Road when they heard shots and felt pain, Chicago police said.

The male was shot in the chin and the female grazed in the leg, police said.

Both were dropped off by a passerby at Little Company of Mary Hospital where they were listed in good condition, police said.

The male was transferred to Stroger Hospital, police said.

No one was in custody.

About 10:15 p.m., a 14-year-old was outside on a porch with a group of people in the 4100-block of West End when he was shot in the neck, Chicago police said. It was unknown if he was the intended target, police said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

About ten minutes earlier, two males, 15 and 19, were discovered in a vehicle with gunshot wounds about in the 2800-block of West Adams Street, Chicago police said.

The 15-year-old was shot in the neck and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in serious condition, police said.

The 19-year-old was shot in the chest and arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police said.

Two people were wounded, one critically, in a shooting Friday night in Englewood on the South Side.

They were in apartment about 8:05 p.m. in the 6900-block of South Eggleston Avenue when someone fired shots, Chicago police said.

A male, whose age was not known, was shot in the head and taken the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said. A 26-year-old man was struck in the arm and leg and was transported to the same hospital, where he was stabilized.

Area One detectives are investigating.

There were 44 shot, seven fatally, last weekend.
