Chicago is the third largest city in the United States and is also the largest city in the Midwest. Known as “Chicagoland.”  The metro area has around 10 million people and is the fourth largest metro in north America.

The biggest tragedy in Chicago’s history would be “the Great Chicago Fire of 1871”, it burned down several square miles which led to over 100,000 homeless. Although it was a massive undertaking the city made promised to rebuild. However, it was a blessing in disguise, it led to a construction boom which accelerated growth relating to population an economics during the next few decades. Chicago lead the way making huge contributions to urban planning and zoning standards, as well as  new construction styles creating the Chicago School of architecture, the creation of the City Beautiful Movement, and most notably, the steel-framed skyscraper.

Not only is it known for its business prowess, Chicago is also the second most visited city in the U.S. It brings in 55 million visitors from the U.S. and abroad.  The city achieved 1st place in the 2018 Time Out City Life Index, which is a global quality of life survey of 15,000 people in 32 cities. There are so many attractions that attact all these visitors , some being Millennium ParkNavy Pier, the Magnificent Mile, the Art Institute of ChicagoMuseum Campus, the Willis (or known as Sears) Tower, the Museum of Science and Industry, and Lincoln Park Zoo. Chicago also houses some of the best universities in America including the University of ChicagoNorthwestern University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago which have the title of “highest research” doctoral universities.

They have proud fan bases in each sport including the Chicago Cubs, Blackhawks, Bulls, Bears, Sox, and Fire. There is always something to do no matter if you’re up north in Wrigleyville to down south in the Loop. Chicago dining is also known to be some of the more diverse in the country. Fine dining steak houses such as Mortons, to fast food such as Jim’s Italian beef. The biggest food staple though is Chicago deep dish, so if your looking to chow down head downtown to Uno’s pizzeria and they will not disappoint.
